Who can become a CHIFSA member?
CHIFSA membership is open to anyone involved or interested in South Africa’s cannabis and hemp sectors. This includes licensed growers and cultivators, CBD product retailers, natural health outlets, researchers, manufacturers, legal professionals, and individual advocates. Whether you’re fully operational or just entering the industry, there is a membership tier that fits your current stage.
What is the benefit of joining as an Individual Member if I’m not licensed?
The Individual Membership is ideal for professionals, students, consultants, researchers, and anyone who wants to stay informed and connected. You’ll gain access to regulatory insights, CHIFSA newsletters, educational webinars, networking opportunities, and participation in advocacy campaigns—without needing to be part of a licensed facility or business.
How does CHIFSA support its members with compliance?
CHIFSA provides compliance support tailored to each membership tier. For Individual Members, this includes access to basic regulatory updates and guidelines. Shop/Outlet and Grower Members receive more advanced tools including templates, legal referrals, policy briefings, and ongoing access to our network of compliance specialists who can assist with specific operational or licensing requirements.
What happens after I submit my membership application?
Once your application and payment are submitted, our team begins a verification process. This includes reviewing any required documentation (such as business registration, cultivation license, or proof of operation). Approval typically takes 2 to 3 business days. You’ll receive a confirmation email with your membership ID, onboarding resources, and access credentials to member-only content and tools.
Can I upgrade or change my membership later?
Yes. CHIFSA offers flexible membership upgrades. For example, if you start as an Individual Member but later open a retail outlet or secure a cultivation license, you can upgrade to the appropriate tier at any time. Simply contact our team with your new details, and we’ll guide you through the transition with pro-rated billing if applicable.
